With basketball season right around the corner, we are working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly for our athletes. To make that happen, we need a strong team behind the scenes, and we are currently looking for help in two key areas:

No experience? No problem: We will guide you through the training and certification process step by step.
Score Table Crew (All Levels)
We are also looking for reliable volunteers/workers to help run the score table for games at all levels (bookkeeper, clock operator, etc.). If you want a front-row seat to the action, this is the best seat in the house!

Great news from Monday’s school board meeting! Jerry Power from Power Insurance dropped by to present two dividend checks from EMC Safety Group, which will help offset our property insurance premiums. Huge thanks to Jerry for taking the time to speak with our board and support our schools!
Can you believe it's nearly October already?! The next few months are going to fly by and we have a lot of things in the works. Coming up we have the end of the semester on October 22, Red Ribbon Week full of dress up days and activities October 23-31, and a 3rd-6th grade trip to Des Moines to watch Iowa Wild hockey on November 5th. We want everyone to be able to participate in the fun so please help your child do the following: 1. Have all assignments turned in. 2. Maintain a passing grade in all classes by the end of the quarter. 3. Have no unserved detentions or suspensions. Remember, together we empower every student to learn, lead, and succeed! TOGETHER WE SOAR!
Preschoolers have patiently been waiting for their ducks to hatch. Today we were able to get them out of the incubator and show them some love! Preschoolers are so excited today!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up soon, and we invite you to join us to discuss your child’s progress and goals for the school year. Conferences will take place on Monday, October 12 and Thursday, October 15, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on both evenings. To reserve your meeting times with your child's teachers, please visit our online sign-up . We are also offering a sign up for 7-12 teachers this year. Make sure to scroll all the way through to find the teacher you want to have a conference with. Please reach out to the main office if you have any questions or need assistance with scheduling.
Starting July 1st, 2026, all public high school students in Iowa must successfully pass the State of Iowa Civics Assessment (Code 8F369) to earn their diploma. To fulfill this graduation requirement, students need to achieve a score of 60% or higher. The assessment is untimed, allowing students to work carefully through each question, and anyone who does not pass on their first attempt can retake it as many times as needed. We plan to have students take this exam for the first time the week of October 5, 2026.
Please keep our arrival and dismissal procedures in mind! Most importantly, students who are not participating in a school-sanctioned activity or supervised by a teacher/coach must leave the building by 4:00 PM. Thank you for helping us keep our school safe and organized!

A September Update from the Desk of Principal Ogden --
It’s been a great start to the school year. Kids have done well adjusting to policy changes, schedule changes, curriculum changes, and getting more responsibilities. Thus far, I have seen good efforts toward studies and grades. The overall vibe throughout the school building PK-12 has been very positive.
A big part of the reason our students are having a successful start to the year is due to our staff, both certified staff and support staff. Everyone is on the same page about doing what is best for students.
The big back to school event every school year is the Jamboree. I felt that kids worked hard on their floats and took pride in a number of Jamboree related activities/opportunities. We had seniors helping out at the legion, and bingo, the band marching, lots of young ladies participating in the queen contest, kids walking in the parade for the suicide awareness walk, the FFA produce show, and FFA officers taking a bingo shift.
September Shout Outs:
Band: Our band is two thirds junior high kids. A lot of these kids are new to marching and giving great effort. The credit goes to Mrs. Avery for getting kids on the right instruments, and of course, her assistant Taylin Kaster. Taylin has been donating her time to help with marching season and helping give additional lessons when needed.
Cross Country: We have three junior high cross country kids that are running every morning at 7:15. Their dedication is incredible considering two of them are also participating in junior high football in Centerville.
Indian Hills: Seven of our nine seniors this year are enrolled in Indian Hills Academy Courses.
Physical Education: With the new PE guidelines from the state, all of our PK-12 students have completed their baseline testing. Baseline testing consists of the presidential fitness testing requirements - which includes flexibility testing, timed agility sprints, a timed mile run, planks, push-ups, pull-ups, and curl-ups.
I am excited to see how much kids grow in their strength and athleticism by the spring.
